WhatsApp will stop working on some iPhones and Android devices from January 1st, here is the list

In 2021, WhatsApp will end support for some iPhones and Android devices. Now don’t worry already, the messaging app will stop working on older iPhones and Android devices and not new phones. WhatsApp will primarily end support for smartphones using older operating systems. If the reports are to be trusted, WhatsApp will not work on devices that are not running iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3 operating systems.

According to reports, iPhones that don’t work on iOS 9 will not be able to use WhatsApp on their phones from 2021. iPhone models include all iPhone 4s and earlier models. However, if you have iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, you will need to update your phone to iOS 9 or later if you want to continue using WhatsApp.

The first generation of iPhone 6S, 6 Plus and iPhone SE can be upgraded to iOS 14.

Likewise, Android phones that don’t have Android 4.0.3 will lose access to WhatsApp. This includes models like HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, Motorola Droid Razr, Samsung Galaxy S2. There could be many more Android phones that could lose support for WhatsApp in 2021.

However, if you don’t know what operating system your iPhone or Android phone is running on, you can go to settings to check it. For example, if you are an iPhone user go to Settings> General> About. There you can check the software details of your iPhone. Similarly, if you are an Android user, you can go to Settings> About phone.

So now those who have the ability to update their phones to the latest software can do so. But for those who don’t have the ability to update their software, they will need to get a new phone to access WhatsApp on their phones.

On a related note, WhatsApp recently received a number of new features. WhatsApp recently rolled out WhatsApp Payments. WhatsApp partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) using Unified Payment Interface (UPI), an India-first, real-time payment system that enables transactions with over 160 supported banks. For Indian users, WhatsApp has partnered with major banks including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, State Bank of India and Jio Payments Bank. The feature has been implemented for Android and iOS users.

Aside from that, WhatsApp has launched custom wallpapers, WhatsApp carts, Always Mute option, disappearing messages and many other features.
