New Delhi: WhatsApp Pay announced Wednesday that it is now live with State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank for Indian users.

WhatsApp can expand its UPI user base gradually starting with a maximum registered user base of 20 million, the IANS news agency wrote. “UPI is a transformative service and together we have the opportunity to deliver the benefits of our digital economy and financial inclusion to a large number of users who have never had full access to it,” said Abhijit Bose, Head of WhatsApp , India. during the Facebook virtual event “Fuel for India”, quoted IANS.

On November 6, Whatsapp announced that people across India will be able to send money via WhatsApp.

“This secure payment experience makes transferring money as easy as sending a message. People can send money to a family member or share the cost of goods remotely without having to change money in person or go to a local bank,” said L instant messaging app.

WhatsApp designed the payment function in partnership with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) using Unified Payment Interface (UPI), India’s first real-time payment system that enables transactions with over 160 supported banks.

“We are excited to join the Indian campaign to increase the ease and use of digital payments, which is helping to expand financial inclusion in India,” added WhatsApp.

For both Android and iPhone, you can send money after adding your bank account to WhatsApp.

How to send WhatsApp money via Android

Open the chat you want to send money with.
Now tap Attach, then select Payment.
Tap Continue to verify your debit card details.
Enter the last 6 digits of your debit card number.
Provide the expiration date, tap Done.
Now set the UPI PIN.
You will receive an OTP (One Time Password) which may be pre-filled.
If not, you will receive an SMS containing the OTP on your phone.
Type the OTP under ENTER OTP.
To send another OTP to your phone, tap Send OTP again.
Create a Unified Payment Interface (UPI) Personal Identification Number (PIN).
Now enter it under SETUP UPI PIN and tap Submit.
Once the UPI setup is complete, tap Done.
Open the chat you want to send money with.
Tap Attach and then Payment.
Enter the amount you want to send.
Enter a description for the payment and tap Submit.

How to send WhatsApp money via iPhone

Open the chat you want to send money with.
Tap Attach> Payment.
Tap Continue to verify your debit card details.
Enter the last 6 digits of your debit card number and the expiration date.
Tap Next> Set UPI PIN.
An SMS containing an OTP (One Time Password) will be sent to your phone.
Type the OTP under ENTER OTP.
To send another OTP to your phone, tap Send OTP again.
Create a Unified Payment Interface (UPI) Personal Identification Number (PIN) and enter it under ENTER NEW UPI PIN and tap Submit.
Re-enter the new UPI PIN in CONFIRM NEW UPI PIN and tap Submit.
Once the UPI setup is complete, tap Done.
Open the chat you want to send money with.
Tap Attach and pay.
Enter the amount you want to send.
Enter a description for the payment and tap Submit.
