Vivo V20 2021 was quietly launched in India with Snapdragon 730G

Not long ago, Vivo unveiled its Vivo V20 series in India and a few select markets. However, the company was not very happy with the number of devices released with this series of smartphones. A couple of days ago, we started seeing a lot of leaks pointing to the arrival of the Vivo V20 2021 variant. Today, suddenly, the device was released in India. The device has been listed by Amazon India and is already in stock and ready to order. This was quite unexpected, after all, Vivo didn’t hint at the official launch of the phone.

Vivo V20 2021 specifications

The Vivo V20 2021 is an intriguing device. After all, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset at the helm along with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. Perhaps, 2021 really means the device is beyond vanilla Vivo V20, which carries the lesser Snapdragon 720G. The phone is also equipped with a 6.44-inch FHD + AMOLED panel with a 44MP selfie snapper that offers an autofocus feature. The V20 series offers some of the most powerful smartphones for those who like to take selfies.

The handset is powered by a 4,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. Another interesting fact is that the device runs the Android 11 operating system, but it is not the OriginOS version, but Funtouch 11. This makes us a little confused on Vivo’s strategy for its newly launched OriginOS system. We know that the operating system will make its debut on the Vivo X60 series. But now we’re curious to see if other devices will receive the same update or receive a Funtouch 11 update.

Aside from the chipset, the Vivo V20 2021 is truly identical to its sibling Vivo V20. To the point that we can say that the newer model is more of an incremental “2021” update with a better chipset. In everyday use, the difference isn’t huge, but games will work better with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G. When it comes to other specs, we get the same package. So there’s no point in upgrading if you already have a Vivo V20. If you want to be part of the family, the V20 2021 is definitely a better option if you come from nowhere.

We are not sure about the global availability of the phone. Perhaps Vivo will take it to other Asian markets in the coming weeks. As for India, customers will have to pay INR 24,990 (~ $ 340) to get one unit.
