Tom Cruise let slip an apparent breach of COVID-19 security protocols on the London set of the new Mission: Impossible movie, telling crew members they would be fired if they didn’t obey the rules, British newspaper Sun reported. .

In swearing-filled remarks captured on audio tape obtained by The Sun, the action movie star and producer yelled at the crew about the disruption of social distances and other rules that allow movies to be made during the coronavirus pandemic.

A source close to the production said the tape was genuine. Cruise’s rep declined to comment.

“They’re on the phone to every fucking studio at night, insurance companies, producers, and they’re watching us and using us to make their movies,” Cruise told the crew on set.

“Do you understand the responsibility you have? Because I’ll take care of your reason. And if you can’t be reasonable and I can’t handle your logic, you’re fired, “he added, according to the tape.

The Sun did not say when the incident occurred, but the filmmakers arrived in London in early December.

The Seventh Mission: Impossible was one of the first films to stop production due to the coronavirus when it abandoned filming in Venice, Italy in February.

Production resumed in September, with filming in Italy, Norway and London. Cruise in July personally appealed to the Norwegian prime minister to shoot portions of the film in Norway with modified quarantine rules.

The Paramount Pictures film will be released in November 2021.

Cruise told the crew that Hollywood was relying on films like Mission: Impossible to keep the beleaguered industry moving forward.

“We want the gold standard. I’m back in Hollywood making movies right now thanks to us! Because they believe in us and what we’re doing, ”he said, according to the audio tape.

Mission: Impossible is one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises, with 2018’s Mission: Impossible-Fallout grossing more than $ 791 million at the worldwide box office.

We want the gold standard. They are back in Hollywood making movies right now thanks to us! Because they believe in us and what we are doing!

They are on the phone with every fucking studio at night, insurance companies, producers and they watch us and use us to make their movies. We’re creating thousands of jobs, motherfuckers.

I never want to see him again, ever! And if you don’t, you are fired, if I see you do it again, you leave. And if anyone on this team does, that’s it, and you and you too. And you, never fucking do it again.

That’s all! No excuses. You can tell people that they are losing their fucking houses because our industry is closed. He won’t put food on their table or pay for their college education.

This is what I sleep with every night. The future of this fucking industry! So I’m sorry I’m beyond your apology. I told you and now I want it and if you don’t, you’re out. We are not going to close this fucking movie! Is it understood?

If I see him again you are fucking gone – and you are – so you will cost him the job, if I see him on set you are gone and gone.

That’s all. Am I clear?

Do you understand what I want? Do you understand the responsibility you have? Because I’ll take care of your reason. And if you can’t be reasonable and I can’t handle your logic, you’re fired. That’s all. That’s all.

I trust you guys are here. That’s all. It’s all guys. Think about it for a while. . .[inaudible].

This is what I think of Universal and Paramount. Warner Brothers. The movies are going because of us. If we shut down, it’s going to cost people a fucking job, their home, their family. Here’s what’s going on.

All along the line. And I care about you guys, but if you don’t want to help me, you’re gone. ok? Do you see that stick? How many meters are they?

When people hang around a fucking computer and hang out around here, what do you do? And if they don’t comply, send their names to Matt Spooner. That’s all.
