The Center chose Punjab to conduct a blank test of the COVID-19 vaccine on December 28 and 29, Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said Thursday.
“The districts of Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar have been selected for the dry run,” he said in an official statement in Chandigarh.
Mr. Sidhu said the dry run is intended to test the mechanisms in place for the launch of vaccination in the health system.
“It will provide insights into any gaps or bottlenecks so they can be addressed before the COVID-19 campaign begins. The blank test must be conducted in one or two districts under the overall guidance of the district magistrate / collector.” he said.
The minister said immunization partners, UNDP and WHO at the state level, will support the dry run.
He said the trip is proposed to be conducted in four states: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Punjab.
