The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) issued a warning to director Karan Johar about a video of a party he threw last year that went viral on social media.
Shiromani leader Akali Dal (SAD) Manjinder Sirsa, who filed a complaint, said the celebrities used drugs in the said party, a charge that Johar had refuted last year.
Confirming the development, an official said the notice was sent Wednesday. “He doesn’t need to be physically present, but he has been asked to respond soon,” said an official.
The NCB’s statement read: “Notice was given regarding the video that was in circulation. The NCB had received a complaint from Manjinder Sirsa in this regard and was marked as MZU (Mumbai Zonal Unit). To verify the veracity of the video, the notice was sent. “
The video features several Bollywood actors, including Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, director Ayan Mukherjee, Zoya Akhtar and Malaika Arora.
Following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, several Bollywood celebrities have been questioned in relation to substance use, including Sara Ali Khan, Padukone and Arjun Rampal. NCB also questioned Anubhav Chopra and Kshitij Prasad and linked them with Dharma Productions.
Johar said Chopra has been associated with the production house for projects from 2011 to 2013. Prasad joined Dharmatic Entertainment in 2019 as a producer, the company is linked to Dharma Productions.
