MUMBAI passengers with a confirmed ticket for a long-distance train can now travel to the boarding station from suburban premises in the Mumbai region, railway authorities said Thursday.
Likewise, those arriving in the city from long-distance trains you can also travel by local trains within six hours.
Currently, only certain categories of commuters, including those providing essential services, can travel on local trains in the Mumbai region upon obtaining a special pass, in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a joint statement issued by the Central Railway and the Western Railway, those with confirmed tickets valid for any outstation train will be able to purchase a non-return local train ticket.
They can travel by local train to the boarding point from anywhere in the Mumbai metropolitan region six hours before departure time.
Similarly, passengers arriving in the city on outstation trains can also travel on local trains within six hours of the station where they get off.
On December 15, the Government of Maharashtra had proposed to the railways to allow passengers on outstation trains to travel on suburban premises.
