Mi 11 will feature Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, Xiaomi revealed through teasers posted online on Friday. The new glass protector was unveiled in July to offer significant drop and scratch resistance. Alongside the new Gorilla Glass, the Mi 11 was anticipated to have a brand new display technology that is considered the best ever seen on Xiaomi phones to date. The Chinese company also anticipated that the new Mi series flagship will be slim in design and have a lightweight build. Earlier this week, Xiaomi also revealed that the Mi 11 will feature “computational photography” technology and offer improved camera performance in low light conditions.
Xiaomi has posted a series of teasers on Weibo to highlight the presence of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the Mi 11. The new glass technology introduced earlier this year is touted to have a double improvement in scratch resistance over Gorilla Glass. 6. It is also claimed to be up to four times better than competitive aluminosilicate glass.
At the time of its launch, Corning said the Gorilla Glass Victus achieved drop performance of up to two meters when dropped on hard, rough surfaces in lab tests. Samsung was named as the first customer to use the Gorilla Glass Victus and was first featured on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. However, Xiaomi appears to be the second manufacturer to offer the new glass protection on its flagship.
It is important to note that the Mi 10 and Mi 10T series had Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and rear.
In addition to the Gorilla Glass Victus, Xiaomi has anticipated that the Mi 11 will arrive with the new display technology. The company said the display on the new Mi series phone costs as much as traditional TV screens. Xiaomi co-founder and CEO Lei Jun further said the display may be the most expensive in the industry.
Xiaomi did not provide specific details on the display of the Mi 11, although in one of the teasers it suggested that it would come with better sunlight readability and provide vibrant colors.
The display of the Mi 11 could feature curved sides and thin bezels if we look at the recent rumors. The smartphone may also have QHD + resolution along with support for dynamic refresh rate.
Alongside the display, Jun anticipated that the Mi 11 will come with the thin and light profile.
Xiaomi will host the launch of the Mi 11 in China on Monday 28 December. In the meantime, we can expect some new teasers to surface on the web with more details.
