Former England hitter Kevin Pietersen said he was “in awe of the way Sanju Samson plays his shots” and the time he has to play them. Pietersen was very impressed with Rajasthan Royals captain Samson’s century against the Punjab Kings in the 2021 IPL. RR failed to win the match, but Samson’s 119 still remains one of the highlights of this year’s IPL.

“I love Sanju Samson every year. I’m just in absolute awe of the way he plays his shots and the time he has to play the shots. His century against the Punjab Kings was absolutely magnificent and he was very unfortunate not to push his team over the edge, ”Pietersen told Betway.
Pietersen, however, pointed out that Samson must be consistent with the bat as he tends to “disappear” in the middle of the IPL.

“I talked about it a lot in the comments last year, but it’s all about consistency with Samson,” added Pietersen. “It has a tendency to disappear in the middle of the tournament.”
Samson hasn’t been in the run since scoring a hundred in RR’s opening game.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and we don’t want this to be the only inning worth talking about for a few weeks, so we should be wary that he only scored four goals in Rajasthan’s second game against Delhi Capitals.
“His responsibilities are going to another level now that he is captain of the Royals, though, and he also has to cover the hole Ben Stokes left in that batting lineup.
“As a captain you start thinking of others as well as yourself, which can happen in two ways. You can lose your foundation and go out of focus, but it can also free you because you don’t constantly think about your game.
“When you don’t think too much about the joke, a free spirit like Samson can go out and start toning him up anywhere. It’s yet another reminder that there is no academy in the world like the IPL, ”said Pietersen.
Samson would like to get back in shape against RCB.
