How are you concerned, SC asks petitioner to ask for farmers to be removed from borders, hearing in progress

LIVE Updates of Farmers’ Protest: By strengthening their stance on the three new agricultural laws, farmers leaders said they will “have” these legislations repealed by the government and said their struggle has reached a stage where they are “determined” to win it, it doesn’t matter. They said today they will completely block the Chilla border between Delhi and Noida to put pressure on their demands, adding that the farmers’ unions are not running away from the negotiations, but the government must pay attention to their demands and come up with concrete proposals. During a press conference at the Singhu border, the leader of farmers Jagjeet Singh Dallewal said: “The government is saying that ‘we will not repeal these laws’, we are saying that we will do it for you.” “The fight has reached a stage where we are determined to win no matter what,” he said. Another leader, Yudhvir Singh, said that the more days farmers stand at the Delhi border protest, their protest will escalate further and added that the government is wrong to think otherwise.

Farmers’ tightening of their stance comes a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that farmers who have gathered near Delhi are being misled as part of a conspiracy. Speaking after laying the foundations for some development projects in his home state of Gujarat, Modi also said his government is addressing farmers’ concerns about the new agricultural laws. During the Singhu border press conference on Tuesday, farmers’ union leaders launched a nationwide call to celebrate “Giveaway Day” (Shraddhanjali Diwas) on December 20 to pay tribute to those farmers who lost their lives during the ongoing protests. Farmer leader Rishipal said one farmer has died on average every day since the protest began in the last week of November.
