Dav Whatmore was named Nepal’s new manager on Thursday (17 December).

Whatmore’s appointment came against the backdrop of Nepal seeking qualification for the 2022 T20 World Cup which will be hosted by Australia after the Asian nation failed to reach the 2021 T20 World Cup to be held in India.

The expert activist has already coached national teams such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Zimbabwe. Incidentally, the position of Nepal’s head coach has remained vacant since Umesh Patwal stepped down in February of this year.

“Dave [sic] he is extremely eager to take on this new challenge, as he firmly believes that Nepal has great talent and a very bright future in international cricket, “said a Nepal Cricket Association press release.” Nepal is a beautiful country and Dave is looking forward to this new challenge with young talents in Nepal. ”

Whatmore coached Sri Lanka to their first 50 over World Cup triumph in 1996 and led Bangladesh to the 50 over 2007 World Cup Super Eights. He also served as head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders for two seasons and helped the Kerala to reach their first Ranji Trophy semifinal in 2018-19.
